Paul's Vision Of Emetophobia

This article was written by Paul. And all copyright is owned by him.

Being contacted every single day for help with emetophobia, I would like to give your readers a idea of my vision of what a sufferer faces day to day.

Obviously my job as a Hypnotherapist mean I come into contact with phobias a great deal, but I always explain is that emetophobia is one of the worst, not to treat you understand, but to live with. If you have a fear of snakes or heights, it is quite easy to avoid them. You already know what I mean, you just can't avoid emet.

That is worth telling a sceptical person, "Excuse me but are you afraid of something, well take that fear and live with it 24/7 see how you feel!"

Another point of note that I tell all my clients is that I can make someone like heights and even snakes, it is possible to love both of them, a lot people love snakes. But, how many people do you know that love sick or vomit, not many I suggest. So the most we can possible hope to acheive in hypnotherapy is to help you cope with the problem, which is all that most want to achieve anyway, but it is important for them to know that you are not going to be expected to like it! Just cope with it, or even just take away those awful feelings.

How Does Emet Begin?

So where do these feelings begin? Usually with a bad expereince or handed down from a parent, normally the former. Often at a young age between 4 and 16 with many around the age or 10 to 12. The place that it happens is remembered in the mind, the feelings, the room tempeature, what you were eating perhaps, its all stored up for future use.

So that the next time these parameters appear the sufferer feels ill, or they avoid them. These expand to what I call snowball, the snowball sees other chances to grow, and will make you avoid other situations, transport, or even going out at all. The snowball gets bigger.

How Does Hypnotherapy Stop Emet?

What I do in hypnotherapy is stop the snowball - straight away - and then push back in the same direction. That may sound like it might take a long time, but it can be instant, but even if it takes two or even three months that is success.

How do we stop the snowball? What I usually do is try and close down the first memories or bad expereince, this is where the snowball begin. Stop those, and under hypnotherapy this can be achieved very well. Most sufferers want help and often want to shut down those memories - this of course makes the job all that more easy to do.
